Avast cannot be deinstalled

Hi

just this moment I tried to deinstall Avast for a test situation.
Windows is 1709.

I did the following:

  • deinstallation with control panel
  • Avast Uninstall Utility in Safe Mode for remaining drivers etc.
  • Restart

There are remaining fragments of Avast in my registry.

Windows Defender is deactivated & cannot be activated.

What’s wrong here?

Just found - three services for Windows Defender are deactivated and cannot be startet >:(

Must I go back to a 2 years old Image before Avast was installed? Horrible.

Not my experience after removing Avast. I’m on Win. 10 v.1803

in the meantime it’s 1803 here.
And the same problem. Virus protection is pending & not active, Bob.

Did you shut down the system and then restart or, did you actually use the Restart option.
If you have fast boot enabled, shutdown and startup never really turns off the system.
Restart on the other hand does.

What is Windows 10 FastBoot?

Nice feature but it will interfere with proper installs of antivirus programs if not done right. I’ve turned it off, not worth saving 30-60 seconds of boot time.

fast startup is OFF.
Virus protection reoprts “Virus protection is managed by your organization” - whatever that means; gpedit shows nothing strange.

Guess you’ve made some changes in Group Policy which effects the settings.

Never, Bob.
Avast made a ugly registry hack: the key HKLM/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Windows Defender – DisableAntiSpyware was never touched by me. The search costed me more tha a day.

A reason for not trusting Avast any more.

As always, it’s your computer and your choice. I’ve simply pointed out the reason for this condition.

Yes, right - it is my decision.

And I will never trust a software that switches off other OS components and works as malware >:(
