AVAST cannot connect to update server.

I cannot get AVASt 5 to update. I have an active internet connection and can update other software on my system but not avast! >:(

Things i have tried
I have repaired the TCP/IP stack and winsock
I have checked the hosts file
I have disabled windows firewall … no other firewalls installed.

This system is running windows XP Pro SP3
This computer has recently recovered from a virus infection, I cleaned the infection using MBAM, combofix, and AVAST in that order. I updated AVAST manually BTW.

Try direct connection (no proxy)…!

What exactly does that mean. I do not have a proxy setup in internet options. Are there download settings within the AVAST console??

I found the setting. Thank you that worked. Why do other systems work fine with auto and this one needs to be set to direct? Just curious.

  2. There can be many different reasons, but as you don’t need a proxy we don’t need to work this out… :wink:
