If you are not using a proxy to access the Internet it may help to go to:

avast program settings > Update (Connections) > Proxy > Select “Direct connection” > Test connection

If the test of the direct connection works then “OK” and try the manual update again.

Good memory Alanrf… the proxy thing seems to be back again…

Unfortunately it does not help. The connection was ok. but during update it stopped (just a bit forward - on about 68 200 bites).

I will try to uninstal and download again

Download and save the avast setup file to your HDD where you can find it again, disconnect from the internet, before you uninstall (so you aren’t on-line with no protection) and reinstall.

I uninstalled completely in the safe mode. After installation by accident I tried through proxy and it didn’t work properly. But after choosing that I got fixed connection it works just as it should be.

Nevertheless thx for your help

Thanks for posting back tomasir.
Welcome to avast forums.

I had the same problem as tomasir did.
But there were no changes after reinstallment.
Setting “direct connection” did not help either.

Generally I use internet connection via 3G modem.
But after establishing dial-up connection the download was ok.

2 tomasir:
What internet connection do you use?

2 all:
What was the problem?

standard mobile connection for notebooks

ps. at the begining I have no problem, but later on it appeared

kreep, please, post the last 300-350 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log
Which is your firewall?

tomasir, the same thing… the problem was with THAT particular file. Next updates were done without any problems.

Tech, ok, i will post it later. I use Windows Defender.

here comes the log…

I see no problems in your log…

how about this:

the same (0x000004c7) as tomasir had…

the first part of the log - updating attempt via 3G/EDGE modem (not successful)
the second - using dial-up (successful)
the last - next update via 3G/EDGE modem (successful)
