Avast cause Windows crash

Some times when I chose delete in a Virus Alert. I use some cracks, detec by Avast as Trojan-gen. Anyway, when I chose delete in Virus Alert window, Windos crash, all icon dissappears and the task bar for few seconds(like 45 seconds or less) and all appear again. Do avast create a file when it crash or windows? What file I need to send you so you can check what cause the crash. I have WinXp SP2.

It’s a pity… here is a legit site. Hope you do not used a craked avast! :stuck_out_tongue:
If so, why am I helping you? :-*

Yes, please check the folder \data\log
Are there any files called unpXXXX there (where XXXX is a random number)?
If so, send them to vlk (at) avast.com or rypacek (at) asw.cz
They may contain more information about the problem (maybe a link to this thread).

For Windows dump, go to folder \windows\minidump and send the newest (recent) .mdmp files for analysis.
Better if you can compress (zip) them and add some information about the BSOD and the link for this thread.

I didn’t say that I use cracked Avast. I said I use some cracks for other programs. Some of the cracks are dected by Avast as Trojan-gen

I understood… as you can read in the word Hope:

It’s normal that avast! detect cracks as infected as, the majority of the times, they realy are.
Did you try the solutions I’ve posted before? 8)

Can you please describe more in detail what really happens? It’s not very clear to me.
By crash, I would understand a bluescreen (crash of Windows), or at least an error box (“Application has caused …” - crash of application). Disappearing icons… sounds like the Explorer (Desktop) was restarted?

There was not error messages. Remember the windows 98 old days, when the task bar dissapear and some icon in the bar dissapear too. Something like that happened here, maybe was a desktop restart as you said, but it was not made by me. It was produced after I chose the option DELETE in the Virus Alert windos, the PC hanged or stop responding for few seconds and then the icons in the desktop and the task bar dissapears for few seconds(I could only see the background image). I sent the dump files to VLK

Hi,

the crash is being caused by a hook DLL that is loaded in the avast process. The crash occurs because the DLL gets, for some reason, updated, and Windows jumps right inside its (now unloaded) code.

Unfortunately, I don’t know the name of the DLL because it has already been unloaded… :-\
