Avast caused system to freeze

After installing Avast last night, I got up this morning to try and turn on my computer. After all the boot procedures had finished, the system just hung and I couldn’t do anything. I am NOT using another Antivirus program, and my system had no problems booting up before I had installed Avast. The only way I could access my system normally again was when I eventually ended up having to uninstall the whole program. What good is this program when all it does is hang your computer?

System specs:

Pentium II 450MHz (ancient)
Windows 98SE
320MB RAM
IE 6.0
No other software automatically loads during the boot process

Hi Tom034,
maybe your desktop is a little bit lazy:
minimun system requirement:For a computer running Windows® 95/98/Me:
486 Processor, 32MB RAM and 50MB of free hard disk space.

your config:

Pentium II 450MHz (ancient)

Ummm last time I checked a 486 processor was LESS than a Pentium I computer. So I think a Pentium II is fine for this purpose. You’re confusing 450 MHz with 486 processor, which is much less than 450 MHz. You should be comparing 486 processor with Pentium II.

Also, I have 4 GB of free hard drive space…

I’m not an idiot…

Well, it might be a conflict with some other low-level program on your computer… do you have any “low level” programs installed? I’m not sure what exactly it might be… something monitoring disk access, program execution… something like that.

I'm not an idiot....
Sorry tom034, you're right: I've made a mistake concerning your PB. But I'm not on the edge like you are :P
