I receive the following Microsoft Outlook errors about 70% of the time when the Avast shields are enabled. These errors prevent me from sending/receiving email. Outlook just keeps retrying every few minutes. The errors do not occur when the Avast shields are disabled. Disabling the Microsoft Outlook Avast Add-in has no effect on the problem.
“Task ‘blahblah@comcast.net - Receiving’ reported error (0x800CCC1A) : ‘Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified. Try changing the encryption method. Contact your mail server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for additional assistance.’”
Any ideas on how I can get Avast to play nice with Microsoft Outlook?
My server settings are clearly correct because I only have problems when Avast is enabled. Avast enabled = MS Outlook errors occur. Avast disabled = MS Outlook operates correctly with no errors. Avast is clearly interfering with MS Outlook operation as I only have Outlook problems when Avast is enabled.
This behaviour might occur when the Avast Mail Shield certificate is not configured correctly. While this might not be an issue for the communication between Outlook and the mail server, it might be an issue when Avast Mail Shield is involved. Can you please specify which specific version of Outlook you are using, and please provide a screenshot of your server configuration settings in Outlook?
While I appreciate your help, it’s just not worth this much trouble. It took me five minutes to switch to Bit Defender and the problem has been solved.
Did not have this problem for years, UNTIL Avast updated program and virus definitions.
Now using Outlook 2003, any attempt to send or receive via Gmail errors, as described by other users.
Disconnecting shields for either outlook.pst or www.gmail.com does not fix the issue.
Disabling Avast shield DOES.
This proves that the issue is caused by the new Avast version.
Would like to know of any other solution before leaving Avast, thanks!
I am using Avast One Free 23.1.6049. Until last week I had been using Outlook 2016 and Avast without any problem. From Wednesday I started getting the 0x800CCC1A error and was unable to sync my Gmail accounts. I tried various fixes I read about on the net but none worked. Out of the blue I disabled the Avast shields and all my emails flooded in. I could continue to disable the shields to sync my mail but a fix would be great. Has there been any more information on the cause and remedy for this?
