Avast causing FaceBook Issues?

Hello,

Several week back I made the switch from Panda to the Avast free version and since the switch every time I get a FB IM, FaceBook freezes up and I have to close and reopen and again FB freezes when I receive another IM. I’ve tried turning off Avast’s IM Shield but the problem still persists. Has anyone else had this issue…any clues?

hey have you removed panda complete before install avast? i suggest you run the uninstall tool for panda and see if it finds any leftover files.

what browser are you using when you get freezes?

Thank you for the help. When I first removed panda I used the advanced removal setting with Revo Uninstaller. I went into the registry and did find some panda leftovers which I deleted. I then ran the panda removal tool. I seem to be panda-free now. :slight_smile:

I’m currently using Chrome as my primary browser – never had this issue before.

For the future, please use this site to remove an antivirus/security suite.

Revo Uninstaller is not really designed to completely remove this sort of program without possible ill-effects afterwards. It is fine for everything else except for what is noted above.

Proper removal is to always use Add/Remove if XP, or Programs and Features if Vista or higher, then use the specialised tool to cleanup. Reboot to finalize the removal of all old files. This is a very important step, one some of us will forget to do at times.

You may have noted that Revo never calls for a reboot when finished, so… OR the program uninstall will call for it, but user wants to continue with Revo, and forgets to reboot after.

Try another browser if you wish, use the latest stable version of Firefox, and see if the freezing is still present. If no freezing, then continue using Chrome for everything else and FF only for Facebook.

Thank you for the assistance, I did some further troubleshooting and discovered that the latest version of Chrome’s built in flash player has some issues. I followed the instructions from this link – http://www.ghacks.net/2012/09/16/fix-the-chrome-shockwave-flash-plugin-problem/ – updated Adobe’s Flash Player, rebooted and everything seems to be running more smoothly: no more FB freezes and videos tend to load faster without buffering issues. I hope this has solved the problem.
