Avast checking files when inserting USB flash drive, major slow down.

Several weeks ago, Avast started checking all of the files when I inserted a USB flash drive into my laptop. I’m using Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. This is causing a major slow down with the laptop coming to a halt until it is finished. It takes several minutes with a 1 GB drive and would probable take over an hour with my 32 GB drive. I can’t imagine what it would do with an external 500 GB hard drive.

Avast was not doing this previously. I have not installed any programs at the time this happened except Avast and Windows updates. I don’t have any other security checkers on the computer.

My desktop with Avast and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and my other laptop with Avast and Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit do not exhibit this behavior.

How can I stop Avast from this USB auto-checking?

Well this certainly isn’t a default action, as avast is an on-access scanner it only checks files that are accessed. On a USB sick it would scan auto-run items, not the whole drive. It certainly doesn’t do this on mine.

Have you made any changes to the File System Shield, Expert Settings ?

Alex, like David said this is not the avast! behavior. Which are the USB contents? Avast! work like in the other computers.
