I have this thread bookmarked and should it happen again I will certainly do those steps.
One thing I noticed tho: in the threads section - there were like 40 threads opened to activate.adobe.com (or the like)…

thanks for reporting this to us. It would help, in case anything similar ever happens in the future, to create a process dump for us.
For this you have to:
a) disable self-defense in avast settings \ troubleshooting
b) open Task Manager, right click on the AvastSvc and select “Create Dump File”, or even better in Process Explorer, right click, select Create Dump / Create Full Dump
