Avast Cleanup Pop Up Error

I run Avast Free Antivirus on my computer, and has as of lately had an error I cannot fix myself. The company article about disabling pop up-messages provided no help.

Every now and then, a box pops up in the lower right corner of the screen, with the following text (translated from my native language):

"avast! Free Antivirus <51/51>

Avast Cleanup

There is already an active session of the service"

It keeps happening all the time while you’re working on the desktop. All the time. It doesn’t help to shut it down since it pops up again immediately, and I have found no way to stop this or hide it (short of covering the lower right corner of the screen with taped paper). This is a serious annoyance and disturbance of the work climate on the computer. Could anyone please help to remove this error permanently?

Thanks in advance.

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?
  • Avast Free Antivirus 2015
  • Version 10.3.2225 - “In memory of Jan Koubek”
  • Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), Service Pack 1
  • AVG AntiVirus Free 2015
  • Named AVG. Several other AVs were uninstalled some time prior to installing Avast upon recommendation by a friend.

Are these the correct specifications? AVG and Avast has never clashed before on my computer.

First, be sure to get rid of AVG and all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)…!!

Then:

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Thank you kindly! It worked. Now, I have time to get to grips with a bit older problem concerning Avast and a purchase of Cleanup. Posting a new thread with regards to that issue.

You’re welcome.
