Avast client refuses to update license or reinstall in Win2008R2

We have 5 servers all running up-to-date Win2008R2 and around 10 pc’s with XP or Win7 SP1. All computers have the avast! client running. Recently our license expired and we have just renewed it. After installing the new license file all pc’s updated their license automatically. The servers however refuse to update their license and remain unprotected.

What I have tried so far on 1 server:

  • Reboot the server;

  • On the server updated the avast engine and definitions, as well as the program via its GUI. The program is currently on v8.0.1607 and the virus definitions are 160904.0. This seems to indicate that the virus definitions are current, but the engines remain disabled;

  • Using avast SOA run the update/install-job targeted to this server, with and without a force reinstall. Both jobs failed, saying:
    “Your operating system does not meet the requirements. This edition of avast! cannot be installed on Windows Server. (20000020) [536870944]”

This is especially weird since the client is already running on the server.
Googling these error codes came up empty.

How do I get the clients on the servers to update their license?

UPDATE: according to avast support the wrong license file was ordered and installed. How this is possible is beyond me but I’m working with them to resolve it.

Today avast do 8.0.1608 release, one of my customer with that bug says right now that this update help. Please try it and say here - hepled/ not helped.

Update: after a lot of e-mailing back and forth, mainly from my side, Avast sent me the correct license file. Everything is up and running now.
