Avast closes when I try to run a scan?

So I tried to run a scan this afternoon using Avast. But when I clicked on scan avast closed instead of running the scan or going to the scanning page. It simply closed.
It also does this if I try to click on security or software updater. Everything else however seems to be working normally.

I just got my computer back today from having the fan looked at. The issue was purely hardware related so they shouldn’t have had any reason to do anything to any of my software. They are also unfortunately closed until Tuesday.

I’ve had something similar happen on another computer with AVG antivirus where the security wouldn’t open at all, it turned out to be a rather nasty virus.
If anyone had any idea on whats happening and how to fix it that would be great.

do you have any other security programs installed?
did you remove your previous AV before installing avast?
did you run the vendors removal tool to clear any leftovers that may conflict?

have you tried avast repair?
ad/remove programs > avast > uninstall > repair option…wait a minute and reboot

any change?
