Avast Config reset to default after system crash

Hi guys,
everytime my system crashs or isn’t shut down correctly my avast on-access configuration is reset to the default values. This is very borring because i’ve made many changes to the configuration and restoring them takes a lot of time :cry:

Which OS you have? Win98 or other?

My guess would be win98 or ME by the frequency of the crashes (and the normal/regular occurance view, as in, ‘everytime my system crashes’).

There are probably some files you can save and restore, like avast4.ini and some others (not that familiar) worth saving for that purpose, but ultimately finding the cause of the crashes and avoiding them is the best option.

Sometimes windows ‘kill’ avast before it could save the changes.
To solve this, make the changes, stop and exit avast (last command on the menu, right click the ‘a’ blue icon).

I’ve Win2K SP4 but because I’ve to use some older programms my system crashes from time to time

I've tried it, but the next time the system crashs my config is reset to defaults again. IMHO the only solution would be that avast saves it config only when it changed and not on every shutdown of the programm.

What version of avast are you using Home or Pro?

If Pro, what database storeage method are you using ODBC or XML?

If you are using XML, then I believe that something like this can happen with XML storeage method.

I’m using Avast 4.6.665 Home

Unfortunately this is not a contributory factor in your problem as the Home version is fine with either ODBC or XML as its storage method.

So I’m at a bit of a loss as to why this is happening.

What changes/customizations are you making?
Are they reflected in the avast4.ini file? - if so saving a copy of the .ini file in another folder may help.
