Avast conflict with anti-spam

Hello all

Been using Avast4 for 'bout half a year. No problems until I tried Bullguard Anti-spam. It’s free for personal use. But Avast blocks the function of Bullguard. Help! Help!

I get an error message like this from Outlook when attempting to get mail: "-ERR concurrent connections limit in avast exceeded(pass:20, processes:svchost.exe[20]), there is a collision with another program’ "

The problem is, Avast viruschecks mailsvirus, but doesn’t eat spam. And Bullguard eats spam but doesn’t viruscheck. What can be done? Does antispam plugins for Avast exist? Can the two programs coexist in a peaceful harmony?
Yes, Bullguard has of course already offered me to buy their total-multi-super-duper-all-in-one-package with anti this and anti that, but with a flock of pc’s in the house and probably only more to come, it’ll ruin me for sure.

Sincerely “Flatbeard” Miller

First avast doesn’t block, but scans and alerts if infection is found.

avast is reporting a collision with another program, one that is grabbing all the concurrent connections, so avast can’t scan email as it can’t get a connection. So effectively it is something blocking avast rather than the other way round, but because avast is reporting this it is also I guess interrupting the process.

I’m a little concerned why svchost.exe is involved in this email issue, I have never seen it unless this is somehow being used by bullguard, which I also find strange.

However I also though that bullguard was a suit of programs that includes an AV which also scans email, this could also be causing the clash.

avast seems to collide with antispam tools on Vista, displaying the “”-ERR concurrent connections limit in avast exceeded". They could work together (the same I have Spamihilator and avast), although this seems to happen from time to time.

Edit avast4.ini, find the section [MailScanner], add (or edit) the line IgnoreProcess.
[MailScanner]
IgnoreProcess=bullguard.exe

Changing the name of the executable to the real one.

You can increase the number of the concurrent connections in avast4.ini file. Check ‘Settings’ in my signature and browse for [MailScanner] section.

All right!! :smiley: Gotta try that. I’m running XP, by the way, so the problem’s not limited to Vista.
