Avast Connection Time Outs

Hi,

I keep getting a little window popping up with an error that says:

Avast connection timeout.
Internet connection timeout elapsed.

Then it gives a server and Port 25 and a “keep waiting yes/no” option to check. Seems it doesn’t matter which one I check, but since I’m not real sure what this all means I really am not sure what to check.

I have changed my network settings in Eudora from the default 300 to 600.

What should I do?
Thanks,
Deb

Upgrade to Avast 4.5 beta, or wait a few ours for the final release tomorrow. That most likely will solve it.

And changing the timeout just in Eudora isn’t enough, you also must change it in Avast4.ini

I have Avast 4.5.

Seems to me I looked for the .ini file before and couldn’t find it. Can you tell me where it is? (I’m on WinXP) Also, what do I change it to?

Thanks,
Deb

Deb, try to increase both timeouts (of avast into the Advanced tab of Internet Mail provider settings and of your email account, in Properties of the account, Advanced tab too).

Do you use any spam killer?

Ok, changed Eudora as stated to 600, changed Avast from default 120 to 240 (didn’t know what to set it for so guessed).

Yes, Spam Assassin is enabled on my server.

Deb

You can set both to 600, for instance. If you’re on a DSL connection (not dial-up) it shouldn’t be necessary a so long timeout anyway…

Sometimes the spam killer enters in a ‘loop’ and consume all the timeout.
Shutdonw it and start it again.
