Avast connections being blocked

Hi,

I recently installed Avast using the offline installer but since then I havent been able to install any updates. Whenever I run the update, I see “Unknown error”. So I downloaded the Avast Uninstaller utility and tried to reinstall but this time using the online installer but it failed. The log shows connection errors.

So I did a tracert to know if it was being blocked by my ISP but it’s not.

It’s a brand new laptop which was factory reset so the chances of Malware being the case are very low but I’m not sure.

Any idea’s?

What OS/SP ?
What exact version of avast ?
Is there any other security (related) software installed ? (or was there)

Windows 10 - its mentioned in the log along with the version. And no there’s nothing else installed.

I don’t know what’s with your updates, but online installer didn’t work for me either when I reinstalled, offline installer on the other hand worked just fine

Disable the firewall and see if the updates are working.

So the solution seems to be to install Avast 12 instead of 17 but I don’t have XP mode since I’m on Windows 10. I actually tried installing Avast 12 but I think it’s not compatible with Win 10 :frowning:

You can’t install that old a version of Avast and expect it to work on Windows 10.

Bob- you may be right, but how do you know?

HOS_AUS’s symptoms are just like mine and nedo’s - a very oddly blocked connection to the Avast servers.

Again, maybe you are correct, but what technical basis do you have for saying there’s no relationship?
