Avast constant scan of streaming music

When I listen to online music, Avast kicks in and is constantly scanning the stream. After a minute or two, the scan continues to the point where the music plays only intermittently (on-off-on) because the scan is taking up processor resources. Never had this happen with my prior anti-virus. Any workarounds or suggestions for disabling are appreciated. Only way around that I’ve found is to disable Avast shields. My avast settings are Default. Am using Win XP and the embedded media player of the station … the player has the look/feel of Real Player but there is no branding.

What part of Avast! is doing the scanning? You can open the UI and look while you are streaming, browse through the various real-time shields and look at the running Shields Traffic graphs.

Didn’t know one could do that. Thnx. I’ll check it out and Reply a bit later. Anything’s better than disabling the all web shields.

Here is what’s happening. The Script Shield is solid bars at 180. The Network Shield and Web Shield each register at 5 every couple of seconds. The audio ‘clipping’ has started again. Suggestions on which to disable? thanks in advance.

I don’t quite understand what you mean by “solid bars at 180”, but guessing you mean the script shield is scanning something like in attached image?

Gargamel. Correct, that is what I am seeing. Constant bars and with the y axis pretty much level at 180 units.

So I guess what I’m asking… Is there a way I cant get Avast to stop scanning the scripts or whatever when I’m listening to that station. Although I note that the URL changes slightly with every piece of music.

Ok, right now, there is not much you can do in regards to the Script Shield.

The beta that is still being tested right now however, has included more options in the Script Shield like disabling it for specific browsers. However, the beta can come with its own set of problems, so trying it as a fix for this, well, that is up to you, could help, could also cause a new separate problem. If you are willing to wait just a bit (beta test rarely lasts long), the new options should be what you are looking for.

Good update. Appreciated. As this is more of a nuisance than anything critical, I’ll await future releases. Gargamel, Thanks for helping me diagnose the issue.

Np, glad to help.
