I tried to put in a folder and scan it again with MC Afee but no luck. Why wouldn’t it scan…I’m obviously ignorant but trying to learn, thank you in advance for any help
How are you trying to scan it ?
What reasons are given for not being able to scan it OR are there any warning messages ?
Hi timmer and DavidR,
This is perfectly normal to be blocked, it is an active directory service. Rename it to be able to scan it, normally it is not infected but can have a trojan infection.

Well other av scanners cannot scan it either (e.g. Kav’s), perfectly normal.

This when I scaned my system for the first time with the Avast home edition and I rescanned it 3 times which took about 20 mins each time then I put them into a folder a scanned it with the AV that came with my windows XP
What is this other AV scanner that came with Windows XP, none that I’m aware of ?
If you mean an AV that came with your new PC then that is possible. If that is McAfee, having two resident scanners installed is not recommended as rather than provide twice the protection it can cause conflicts that could leave you more vulnerable.
Thanks for the help! I will put the AV that came with the Dell into the recycle bin (mc affe) after I get the key in my e-mail
Please, do not just delete the folder and files. UNINSTALL the antivirus through Control Panel and if you need, use McAffee tools to remove all traces (files and registry keys) left behind…
After using the add remove programs to uninstall you might want to take another step. Mcafee has an uninstall tool that you could run to ensure any possible remnants are removed.
