I recently did a scan and avast couldn’t scan a file. Does this mean anything bad?
what kind of file?
a zip or 7zip or rar
maybe because these kind of files have a password
it was like an internet log file. When i search internet log the file that comes up applies to zone alarm.
could you tell me the extension of the file?
some of them are zipped if its the folder i think it was. Is there anyway i could check scan logs? It does say the zipped ones aren’t password protected though…
The clue to helping us to help you is the reason given by avast for not being able to scan the file/s, the actual file name and its full path. It may be entirely reasonable for ZA (or other security applications) to protect some or all of its files.
See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=35347.msg297170#msg297170 this topic for more information on why files can’t be scanned.
Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.
The Home version doesn’t retain scan information after you shutdown the on-demand scan, so you may have to run the scan again to gather that information.
i have found the file path. The file path is C:\Windows\Internet Logs\tvDebug.zip\tvDebug_2009-02-04-10-23-01.log\
This appears it might belong to Zone Alarm according to a google search, so might well be protected, but you still haven’t said why avast can’t scan it.

it just said there was an error scanning the file and gave me an option to move to chest or delete it.
I certainly wouldn’t choose either option for a file that can’t be scanned and I’m sure there would be another option, ignore.
Hi Eminem and DavidR,
It is probably because the file is in use. See: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic53997.html
and there the last posting in the linked thread…
As far as I am aware, when this True Vector Debug file has been deleted, it is automatically replaced by another, and yes the file is known to grow, and while it is growing and in use avast can’t scan, as simple as that. File is normal component of the ZA firewall software and not known to be malicious,

thank you.
