avast! CPU usage

I have a process called avast! Service(32 bit) And it hovers around 18~22% cpu usage.

Seems a little high, but is this normal?

well, that depends on what you are doing and how fast is your PC. Is it permanent?
If you have a celeron 266 and are copying 1000 exe files, that behaviour would be expected (It’s just an example, don’t take it literally)

It’s permanent, and I’m running an Intel Core i7-4702HQ.

So would that mean it’s abnormal?

Although I don’t know the cause, it’s abnormal.

You could try one of the following:

  1. Control Panel> Add or Remove Programs> Find Avast and click remove> Then click repair and reboot the system.

  2. Unstalling Avast and doing a fresh install of it
