When I try to log into the D-Link DI-704 configuration page (192.168.0.1) with avast running, the login fails and the router needs to be power cycled in order to get it functioning again. I know the router is very old but very reliable. It does have the latest firmware (2.57b3). I am running Avast version 4.8 build 1335. If I stop “Access Protection”, I am able to log in without any problems.
Hi,
does anybody have an idea regarding the described issue?
I have to report the same problem:
SMC Barricade 7004 Router Firmware R1.96h2
Avast Antivirus 4.8
testes OSes: Windows 7 64bit, Windows Vista 64-bit, Windows XP 32-bit
I can connect to the router, as soon as I enter the password, the connection breaks
Doing a permanent “ping ” in the background reveals the router to break down as soon as the password is entered. It can only be reactivated doing a hard-reset as thenunz described above.
My router is also pretty old - but that should not be of any interest to the Antivirus-software.
yes - after stopping WebShield I can login to my router.
And even better - you pointed me into the right direction
In the WebShield Configuration menu, I added my router’s address to the excluded list (funny enough, “Ignore local communication” had been checked before).
Now I can start the service and it doesn’t crash the SMC anymore :-*

P.S. no, I’m not telling you that I’ve had this problem since I installed Vista last year. Now and then I tried to track it down - but I could never narrow it down to anything. I suspected some weird protocol issues after applying some hotfixes …
