Avast crashing PC

Latest version crashes browser and PC if I try and install new programs, firefox loses all text then stops responding.
Outlook2007 addin inactive but there and seems to be just one of the problems, can I go back to previous version which was working fine.

Yes, but you need to uninstall Avast first using the Avast Uninstaller Tool http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility. Make sure you have the download file for the version you want on your HDD first before you uninstall.

Let us know how this works for you. Thank you.

If I do this surely it will auto update and give me the same problem again, could do with the issue being fixed.

To change from auto update:

Open the Avast GUI > Settings > Update > Ask when Update is Available

Unsure what to do for the best, installed PC Tools just to tide me over and everything has settled down and speed of pages in Firefox are far quicker now. :-\

I had exactly the same problem:

Well, it’s up to you, but I just downgraded to the older version of avast (1426) and everything seems normal again. I’ll just wait for a fix. It’s not that I need the latest version right now…

FR

also thing to upgrade avast but change mind in time…

It stops my WinXP from starting properly - see my post under the lead topic: “Program update 7.0.1451”

Took me over an hour to get the PC started that time, killed avast again, reapplied SP3, only able to start in safe mode after that, reapplied sp3 again, restarted and it hung, started again and after 5 minutes thinking about it we had lift off.
I have now reinstalled Avast and it is not showing it’s lovely liitle line of symbols which did bugger all in Outlook, all seems fine at the moment but only time will tell.

Avast has release a fix with a new version v.7.0.1456:
Avast Free AV: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
Avast Pro AV : http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
Avast Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe

You can either upgrade from what you have in the GUI or do a clean install. Users are reporting this version is working much better.
