After running a custom memory scan, Avast comes back with a virus detected with my Mbam service.9 files show in results window. I cant give you a picture but here’s what one of the files says under the status column- Threat:Win32:Dropper-DNB [TRJ]. Can someone enlighten me on this please?
You can safely ignore this.
If you search the forum you will find a million cases…
DO NOT use the “scan memory” setting as this will give some strange results
what you have detected is signatures from other security programs loaded in memory
do not change the default scan settings if you do not know the result
Thanks for reply to both of you. I ran a full scan and boot scan afterwards and all looks good. How does one decipher the info you get from a memory scan? I mean how is this tool useful? What should it be used for? Or should I just keep browsing the forum for more info? Thanks again.
You’re welcome…!
Well, for one, ignore detections on other security programs, like MBAM, Windows Defender, etc., pay attention to the source of the detection.
Mostly I would only use it if my PC was behaving strangely like it might be infected, but Avast! was not returning any results. Then if there was a detection in memory, it might allow you to follow a sort of “trail of bread crumbs” back to the source of the infection (and I mean Might very strongly, we are talking best case scenario here). And if you detect then delete something in memory, if there is a underlying infection, it will likely just come right back again. So to but it as basic as possible…scanning memory if more for an advanced diagnosis on an already sick patient, but it wont treat or cure anything.
Gargamel 360, Thanks for that very informative answer. Was what I was looking for. I’ll be leaving that setting alone now. Have a great holiday.
Welcome, and you have one as well.
