Hi ,
Here I am a new user of the avast antivirus ,and in this forum too.
So ,no problems at all,but some quests : how to know if my avast is running well and if it is enough to let it go automatic or do I make some scans manually?Other question ;what about quarantines ? Must they be erased or saved?
Thank you for replies-

A good place to start would be browsing the avast help file.
avast! should provide a reasonable balance between performance and protection after you install on its default settings.
With the various different resident on-access Shields you should be well protected and reduce the requirement for on-demand (user initiated) scans. I tend to do a weekly Standard scan of Local Drives without archives as a part of my weekly system maintenance.
However, having recently installed avast I would suggest that you run Through scan of all Local Drives with archives selected. This will take quite some time, but it should confirm your system is clean of known viruses or otherwise. You may well get bugged to select an action if a virus is found, ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the Chest (quarantine) and investigate it later. The scan is paused until you make this decision. After that first through scan you can revert to the lower sensitivity Standard scan without archives.
There is no rush to delete anything from the chest, they can’t do any harm there. Anything that you send to the chest you should leave there for a week or two. If after that time you have suffered no adverse effects from moving these to the chest, scan them again (inside the chest) and if they are still detected as viruses, delete them.
Thank you for enlightmment !

No problem, welcome to the forums.
Hi ,
Also one more question:I have the free edition avast!home.do I need to download avast virus cleaner? or is avast a sufficient protection?I ask because there is publicity on front page of avast!-

The Cleaner is a standalone application for removing malware.
It’s already ‘inside’ of the VPS (virus database) of avast! Home version and it’s called when needed, i.e., when a malware is to be cleaned by avast! Home version.
Shortly: No, don’t need to download the virus cleaner.
It is able to be used as a stand alone tool in case you can’t run avast or don’t have avast installed already. So it may be worth having, saved in a folder you will remember where it is, ensure that you check every now and then to keep it up to date.
