I had Avast Home Edition, I think it was 4.6 I downloaded to try the program and maybe buy it later. So when it was expired, uninstalled it which was yesterday. And when the uninstallation was done, all my documents were GONE. And now, I am furious with Avast and don’t know what to do or how to recover them if possible. I have only the shortcuts left to all my Microsoft Word files and pictures. PLEASE HELP!
Removing Avast does not delete any other files other than the ones that are in Avast’s folder.
Search your drive for the files. They should still be there unless you (or another application than Avast) has removed them.
If they are not on your drive and not in the recycle bin, get Handy Recovery. It may get them back for you.

And what if Avast was in my Documents?
Than Avast would still only remove its own components. Nothing else.

use system restore to get all your files back
System restore isn’t a backup tool, it only saves certain files, normally system files, dlls, etc. not data files. The clue is in the name ‘System Restore’ allways backup your files and by far the easiest way is to take a disk image.
