Avast deleted files infected virus, so computer can not restart

  • Yesterday I detected in other computer infected virus at company. Run msconfig I see virus have name: svchost.exe RU, explorer.exe RU
I scan by Avast 5.0 free, detected virus (system files infected virus: userinit.exe, system.exe …) I chose move to chest all, computer can not restart later - can not log in windows, cause by system files are delete by Avast) I must reinstall windows XP for my friend, he blame me: “you should let my computer infected virus, better than make it can not restart”

Because of that I hope the next version you fix this dangerous:

  • warning if user choose delete system file (move to chest).
  • repair option is default - current is move to chest
  • if user can not restart computer, Avast will restored deleted file which infected virus, so can resstart computer later

WOW!!! I HOPE vlk sees this . For this is a potential minefield. meigyoku I hope you can get that computer up and running.

Unfortunately this is a case of “Welcome to the real world!”

The whole point of Antivirus software, Antimalware software, firewalls etc is to prevent your computer from being infected in the first place.

If this fails, then once system files have been infected/corrupted the only solution is to replace them. There are very few infections nowdays that can properly be removed from system files. You can put the infected files in the virus chest at the risk of not being able to restart the machine, or you can stay infected.

To replace the files with non infected files either means a serious repair disk task, or the far easier method - discard the infected partition completely and restore from a known clean backup image.

In today’s world the regular use of Disk imaging should be considered an important step in any system protection plan.

+1

If we use disk image (as Acronic True Image, Norton Ghost …) we do not need use anti virus software
I want to give my idea Avast team to make their product better! ;D

That isn’t true, one doesn’t mean you don’t need the other as a great deal of damage could be done over and above any damage to files by viruses or their removal.

Disk Imaging software is a reactive rather than a proactive measure. It is just that it can save you a lot of time and hassle if you do have to recover from ‘any computer problem,’ other than malware related.
