Hello All,
iam newbie on linux, i just started learned on ubuntu and install virtual box on ubuntu 8.04 also install avast. i have scan my home partition using avast and avast detected that my virtual harddisk contain a virus and avast automatically deleted my virtual harddisk. my question is how i can get back my virtual hardisk ??? just for info i install win*** xp pro on that virtual hardisk…, i just want to take important file on my virtual hardisk… pleasee help me…
If Avast! deleted the file then you can’t get it back unless you have a system restore point for it. (If it didn’t delete that too)
To help prevent this next time, have a antivirus inside the Virtual Machine (Avast! is recominded) and do a full time scan. Then you can remove the malware off the Virtual Machine. The virus can’t do anything to you if its in the virtual machine.
You could of gotten it back easier by putting it in the chest.
By default, avast never deletes file by its own decision - it’s always user’s decision.
after deletion, it’s hard to restore a file on ext2 - is usually rewritten by subsequent block writes.
but, when chested, it’s ok, chesting does only xor 0xff-ing over the original data, nothing is lost there.
