There is a service called PnkBstrB.exe that I have to have running in order to play an online game. It seems as though Avast is removing it from my Services. Is there any way to stop it from doing so?
Firstly avast doesn’t remove anything, it scans and if it finds an infected file it alerts and you the user decide what action should be taken.
So are you saying avast detects it as infected ?
If so what is the malware name ?
What seems to be happening, is that the service is being removed from the MSCONFIG (Automatic Services) list, etc.
I’ve tried adding the folder and the individual programs to the Scanning Exceptions, but to no avail.
Then I would start looking at other security software as avast doesn’t monitor the msconfig.
What other security software do you have ?
Some monitor startup entries and that could be what is going on, though I would have thought they would be in the startup tab and not the Services tab.
All I have is Avast, and Window’s Firewall, which doesn’t count…
If that is all you have, neither of those should do that, I have no what would be the cause.
Al I can suggest is visiting the games forum if they have one and see if this has happened before.
I take it that you were using an account with administrator when you installed the game or whatever it is that places the file as a service.
Why is it that when I turn off Avast, I don’t have this problem?
It takes two to tango or to have a conflict, disable one no conflict but you don’t know what is responsible for the conflict and we don’t even know what the other conflicting process might be.
The only thing I can assure you of is avast doesn’t check the msconfig much less delete entries. So I really don’t know why this isn’t the case when avast is disabled.

Alrighty, contacting it’s support team. Thanks for responding!
