avast detected Aries pp2 as a trojan. is a false positive or not? [Solved]

???
my two daughters love to download a lot of mp3 songs. earlier, they had been using the free limewire but It got as slow as a turtle. nowadays, they are using ares pp2 which is very fast and they said to me it’s safe. but suddenly, yesterday, avast detected it as a trojan and it put it into quarentine. Is it false positive or not? I generally rely on avast better than pp2. thus, I asked you if you know some pp2 which it’s fast and safe. could you reccomend me it promptly because next saturday they will give a party and they need to download a lot of songs. I’d appreciate your helpful hints. please help out a desperate father to help them to accomplish their party. besides, this information it’s important to the avast users to choose a good (safe and fast) pp2 because it’s a very diificult task.Best Regards.

Carioca, if the file is into Chest the only way will be extracting it to a safe place and then submit it to www.virustotal.com to be sure it wasn’t an avast false positive.

After a lengthy search, I may have some information for you. What version of Ares p2p is this? There are several versions that have been modified to include spyware, adware, and other malicious additions. One of these that can be infected when downloaded is AresGalaxy. Is this what you have?

The below links can give you more in formation :

(Be sure to read the last post in the second link above.)

Below are some image results of bad sites from which to download bad versions of Ares p2p. I hope none of these were used nor any other bad sites.

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner and report the findings here. You can’t do this with the file securely in the chest, you need to extract it to a temporary (not original) location first, see below.

Create a folder called Suspect in the C:\ drive, e.g. C:\Suspect. Now exclude that folder in the Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced, Add, type (or copy and paste) C:\Suspect* That will stop the standard shield scanning any file you put in that folder. You should now be able to export any file in the chest to this folder and upload it to VirusTotal without avast alerting.

If it is indeed a false positive, see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=34950.msg293451#msg293451, how to report it to avast! and what to do to exclude them until the problem is corrected.
