avast detected trojan Win32:Agent-ANPT. - help & advice needed please

hi all, i keep all my security up to date & i scan with avast every night. last night this file was detected by avast as containing a virus.

SASMDMP3-19–20-28-55.dmp

the virus was Win32:Agent-ANPT [Trj]

it seems to be within superantispyware folder but i cant find any info on this from google & i dont see any threads regarding any FP, so can anyone offer some help as to what this is please & what action i should take. i have removed to chest at the moment.

TIA

Why? Scanning with another tool like Malwarebytes or SuperAntiSpyware once per day is already excessive…scanning with Avast! once per day is beating a dead horse (imo), because it is already scanning, all the time you are at the PC. No offense intended, just trying to save you some time at the PC that you could use more constructively.

That said…since you are scanning every day, you probably are using what I call a “paranoid” scan, meaning a Custom Scan set to scan everything, particularly Memory? If you scan Memory with Avast!, you will get detections in Memory from other security products you have installed such as SAS. So it is best to avoid scanning Memory 99% of the time.

Looks like an SAS signature update that has been detected or a dump containing something suspect in it.

thanks for the reply, i take your point regarding ‘paranoid’ scanning, but i guess that as laymen we get inundated with security suggestions etc from every corner of the internet & we do get ‘paranoid’ about it.

so, how often do you think i should scan with avast & how often should i include memory scans? also where in settings do i go to stop avast from scanning memory

unless you have some special needs or know something that the avast guys dont know......use the default quick/full scan with default settings they have been playing with malware 24/7 for over 20 years and should know what works ;)

the file shield is running in the background 24/7 when the comp is on…scanning every file that move when the comp is in use
the memory scan will give some veird scan result so do not use it…the forum is full if you search

so a quick scan a week is plenty…or activate the screen saver scan, then you dont have to think about it at all
if something is detected, then run a full scan. Boot scan you use if avast have problems removing a bug, or if it tell you to do so

Sure, I get that…it is not an easily approachable subject, a lot like Medicine, so much jargon to sort through before you even get to the point that you can read and understand half (or less) of what is written about malware. And we always fear more what we do not understand.

Pretty much what Pondus said, Scan how often?>>1 per week (at most) Scan Memory when?>>Never
And also mentioned, the screen saver scan is a good option (if you use a screen saver)
Honestly, I don’t remember when the last time I ran an on-demand scan with Avast!..maybe around 6 months ago? ;D

If you have not used the Custom Scan (that is where you turn in scanning memory) then don’t worry about the whole “avoid scanning memory” bit…that is usually the cause of detections of other security products (like SAS), but as DavidR mentioned, this might be an oddity of detecting something in an SAS dump file, noticing the .dmp file name.

yet again thanks for the reply, just one more question if you dont mind. i have a screen saver but how do i set the scan for that & what does it actually do?

Since I don’t scan…and don’t use a screensaver…perhaps I am not the best person to answer this ;D…but if memory severs me right, all you have to do is use the Avast! screensaver, it should be on the list of installed screensavers, it comes with Avast!. (anyone else is free to confirm/correct me if I am wrong)

Apart from that, for more configurability, open Avast!>>Settings>>BasicSettings>>Special Scans, there is a box to tick on that will allow you to configure the Avast! screensaver scan or right-click scan, it is off by default so these are hidden.

What it does is to start scanning When You turn Your back to the computer and the screen saver start
And it stop if you interupt the screen saver…and remember where it stoppet When it start again…usless You have rebooted…

Ha! Anyways, there is a setting in avast! screensaver that can be changed from the default (3 days) to once a day. Like Gargamel360, I almost never run an avast! scan, it is as he says, real-time scanning is sufficient. Once every two days is also possible.
