Avast detection - Is this a false positive?

Hi there- this is the first time I’ve used these forums, I apologise if I am posting in the wrong section.

I recently ran a full scan with enhanced settings using Avast! Everything seemed to be running normally until Malwarebytes refused to open- so I thought OK, corrupt download maybe, but I then tried other ways of opening it and it worked fine.

So I decided to run scans with Comodo CCE, Avast! Malwarebytes and HitmanPro just for precaution. Avast was the only one to return with results, a Rootkit- but it was HitmanPro- I am not sure if this is in fact a false positive or not, Avast has in the past picked up Rapport at rootkit level.

SVC: hitmanpro37 > C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\hitmanpro37.sys

Severity- High

Threat: Rootkit: Hidden service

Any help would be appreciated and thank you in advance!

Security programs have virus like behavior, they also contain virus signatures so not uncommon that they flag on other security programs… one of the reasons why you should not install multiple AV

Suspicious files can be tested at www.virustotal.com / www.metascan-online.com / www.jotti.org

This is a false positive detection, Hitman Pro is legit program…

Avast detected it’s real time component, and that is usuall behaviour…

Great, thanks for the response guys-

So for my protection I shouldn’t have HitmanPro, Malwarebytes and Avast? I thought these were fine together as HitmanPro and Malwarebytes are secondary scanners and neither have real-time protection or heuristics (they’re free editions).

That’s interesting, I always thought that was fine?

Malwarebytes is not a AV … it install in a different way and is designet to work with AV
Mbam is a special tool designet to target mostly executable files (does not target real virus) they also only target only fresh malware seen in the wild…usually not older then 3 months

One of the forums removal experts say you should be cautios when using hitman as it sometimes remove files it should not…

OK, thanks!

I just got a little confused when you said not to have multiple AV software, I wasn’t sure if it was in response to my set-up or just word of advice.

I’ll definitely bare what you said about HitmanPro in-mind, thanks for the advice.

Pleasant first time on these forums, thank you very much.
