Ok so I had a scan running on avast and went out, when I got back the computer had crashed (it was running, - keyboar/mouse lights were on and I could hear the fans) but the screen was blank and didnt respond to any buttons/ keys / mouse. I restarted the PC and checked the Avast scan log and found that it had detected so many processes that were rung by SAS and MBAM as threats (See Attached screenshot). Also if it helps, I dont have any files on SAS quarantine.
About the Crash issue - This is not the first time that it happened, the computer would crash this way when I had a scan running on Avast, I have this habit of scheduling scans when I go out as scans take a long time to complete, so I dont know how it crashed but each time it happened I had a scan running… I had issues with my VGA drivers so I thought that thats what caused it. I did a clean reinstallation of the VGA drivers and then it stopped happening for a couple of weeks but now its happening again. The thing is I didnt run any scans on Avast since then, until today… So I think that theres a good chance that Avast is causing it… I checked the minidump folder and its empty…
Also I have this issue with my Avast FW getting stopped after using it for some time. I have to manually get it running, I started a thread about this but no solution yet, I mentioned it here because I want to know if theres a chance for these 2 issues to be related.
Is something wrong with my Avast program ? Should I remove it and perform a clean installation? or could this be an infection that MBAM PRO + SAS PRO + Hitman + AIS missed ?( I only run 2 resident, other 2 on-demand) :-\ the chances of that happening are VERY slim but…
Any help is appreciated. Please note that I have the latest releases of all the software (no beta versions). Also I have soluto running.
It isn’t saying the SAS or MBAM processes are threats, it is detecting the unencrypted signatures that they have loaded into memory.
Detections in Memory - My guess is that you are doing a Custom scan in which you have elected to scan Memory and that all these detections are in memory. Since they aren’t physical files they can’t be moved to the chest, deleted, etc. so there is no action that can be taken, hence the Apply button being greyed out.
The detections in memory are frequently other security applications loading unencrypted virus signatures into memory. Having set off a scan of memory by an antivirus application looking for virus signatures, don’t be too surprised if it finds some in memory.
I’m only running MBAM real time and the other is on-demand.
I thought that theres something wrong with my Avast program because of this, the firewall issue and the crash issue. Any idea why it occurs? or is there a way to check whats causing the crash and the firewall to stop ? ( 2 separate issues)
Sorry I can’t help as I don’t use the AIS version.
The crash issue, presumably you have a topic for that and it should continue there. If there hasn’t been a resolution (not) then bump it, make another post to bring it to the top of the list again.
About the crash issue, if it IS due to the VGA, they said that if reinstalling won’t help that probably means that this is a hardware failure. Since this is a laptop I cant replace the graphics card… Dont think the warranty is still valid
