Avast detects Zone Alarm but not installed

I booted up my WinXP laptop this morning and up popped this warning message:

avast!: Incompatible software detected

"We have found out that the avast! WebShield module has compatibility problems with ZoneAlarm’s privacy blocking features.
This may result in some web pages not loading properly or an inability to log on to certain sites (such as Yahoo mail etc.) We are working together with the ZoneLabs team to find a viable solution.

Meanwhile, we recommend turning off the transparent proxy mode of the WebShield module which is known to be the cause of the conflict. You will still be able to use WebShield with ZoneAlarm by manually configuring your browser (described below)

Do you want to disable WebShield transparent proxy mode? (Select “No” only if you aren’t using ZA’s privacy blocking features or have been using avast! 4.6 with ZA w/o any problems)."

The only problem with this is that I don’t have Zone Alarm installed. I did have it, some time ago, but found it termendously annoying and have been comfortable ever since with just Avast Home (regularly updated) and WinXP firewall. So, my questions are: would there be some remaining traces of Zone Alarm that have caused this warning?; why has it kicked off today, when I’ve not changed anything?; is there a more sinister cause? I answered no to the request to disable WebShield’s tranparent proxy mode by the way.

Seems that…
Can you manually check into Program Files if there is anything there related to ZoneLabs or ZoneAlarm?

And then? Is WebShield scanning, does the counter increase and show the last scanned file?

I’m sorry to jump in like this but I was having a problem with “4” not downloading new updates and was using this forum to try and get some help. Found out about ZoneAlarm and Avast problems here, then when back and turn off the WebShield, now everything seem to be working find. Also, I have found out that for me to get all Norton Antivirus or ZoneAlarm off my machine is to go into the registry and delete the “keys”.

Hi Tech

Checked program files and ran a search in the registry, nothing from Zone Labs shows up in either place. Web shield is running and scanning fine.

The warning message hasn’t appeared again, and I am assuming that all is good as Avast is reporting no problems. Just a weird thing I guess.

Thank you for posting help.

Both of you, please come back often, learn more, and maybe help others.

Lazyllama, can you check (ctrl+alt+del) if vsmon.exe is running in background?
