Avast did not detected some of eicar tests!!!!

See this video…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxWX1yGcsHQ&feature=related
also this happened on my computer.

Yes, no scan of encrypted connection is known

Looks like avast did not scan ssl protocols!!!!

I’m gonna screaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ;D
okay 8)

Sorry being on dial-up I don’t go looking at videos.

Why not tell us on the forums (that will be trying to help you), what eicar files and what connection HTTP or HTTPS was used for the download ?

HTTPS as Logos now confirms, can’t be scanned by the web shield.

You could help those who will try to help you by including in your signature some system information, and crucially avast version in full, e.g. 5.0.545.

And what does a football video have to do with scanning of SSL ??? ( K’naan - Wavin’ Flag [South Africa 2010 Official Theme Song] )

FAQ: What is SSL? http://info.ssl.com/article.aspx?id=10241

okay I didn’t check the video, but football makes screaaaaaaaaaaaa…m >:( >:( >:( just like those asking why avast doesn’t scan ssl

Avast! absolutely does detect all versions of the Eicar tests on the official page. It won’t even let you download any of them. Not even the double zipped ones except from the ssl section. The ones it does let you download can not be extracted since they are caught then. That is sufficient protection since no malware can do anything until it tries to execute and an infected archive file could sit on your hard drive for years without doing any damage at all. Things like mail shields and web shields really may not be needed at all for the same reason that no malware can do anything until it hits your HD and tries to execute. Even some of the major AV providers have admitted that scanning email as it downloads is really not needed and is only offered to make people feel safer.

Then give full information on what it a) doesn’t detect and b) what it won’t allow you to download and c) why, e.g. any actions/errors/alerts, etc. Without which no one can comment one way or another.

Avast! detects everything in the normal section and will not let you even download any of them. In the SSL section, the eicar.com file is detected, the text file opens with no alert and the zip files can be downloaded but not extracted without being detected.

Zip files are inert and don’t present an immediate risk so as such they aren’t scanned by the File System Shield until you try to extract the contents and or run them.

The web shield would normally unpack zip files and alert downloaded over HTTP, this won’t happen if you use HTTPS as they are encrypted and avast doesn’t monitor the HTTPS traffic.

and the text file isn’t detected because you need to uncheck that option in the exclusions of the file system shield

The .txt file in the SSL section is still not detected even with the exclusion unchecked in the file shield.

Thanks all.
