mmmkay well i used spybot-search & destroy and wen i finished my scan there was this thing that was called “Rotue” and i scanned my comp before wid avast…but it didn’t detect that…how come?
avast is an antivirus and spybot s & d is an antispyware.
i recommend you using both as they protect you against different kinds of malware.
yea i know…but still i google wat “Route” was…and there wasn’t anythin that came up fro that…yet…wen i scan it wid spybot search and destroy it came up…
You can’t expect avast! will detect everything. Especially such uncommon (minor) things.
What did S&D say it was?
Where was it located - example (C:\windows\system32\infected-filename.xxx)?
I thought this was as good a place to post, because it refers to another missed intrusion. I am sorry if this is considered “HiJacking” another’s post, but I don’t intend it that way. I am unclear as to if Avast considers “key loggers” as viri, so I am only contributing this so someone can verify their own results…
I run Avast (free), Zone Alarm FW/AV, and also have AdAware SE 1.0.6 installed along with Winpatrol for detection, I added Ewido Security Suite Beta last night to try it out, and Ewido discovered this: (but everything else missed it)

Scan result:
C:\Program Files\Paint.NET v2.1b\Skybound.VisualStyles.dll → Heuristic.Win32.Keylogger : Cleaned with backup
D:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-57989841-1409082233-682003330-1003\Dd1.1b\Skybound.VisualStyles.dll → Heuristic.Win32.Keylogger : Cleaned with backup
::Report End
Just for heads up…
Like I said earlier, I was unsure if Avast recognizes Key Loggers as Viri, so I am only giving info to be used as needed.
C:\Program Files\Paint.NET v2.1b\Skybound.VisualStyles.dll → Heuristic.Win32.Keylogger
This is a false positive for sure. Paint.NET is a clean program for sure.
Thank you for the quick response, That is also why I prefer Avast over others…A quality forum to discuss issues / answers.
I only disabled it, I can return it back, but wanted to have confirmation first.
Did Avast recognize it as a non-threat, ot does Avast not recognize “key-loggers” in general?
In general, avast detects keyloggers as being infected. avast! does detetec key-loggers.
But, in your case, seems a false positive… not a virus at the end…
Thanks again… going in to restore it now…
Peace, if you’re US, happy 4th 2 ya.
