Avast disabled by itself and 100%CPU useage

Yesterday my PC started to run slowly and I noticed the A avast ball next to the clock had an X on it. All protection was disabled and opening Avast I couldn’t get the PC to do anything. The FiX button wouldn’t work. I switched the PC off and hoped that it would be ok today but it’s not. Same scenario. AvastSvc.exe is at 100% and I can’t stop it. Computer is so slow it’s criminal so apologies if already posted. It’s Windows XP sp3 I think. Any way to stop the process to at least make progress in finding the issue. Thanks. HELP!!

Me too! As of yesterday my machine is having the same issue(s). Avast ball next to the clock has an X on it. All protection is disabled and opening Avast I cannot get the PC to do anything to correct. The FiX button does not work. I re-booted the PC off and on several times, in hopes that it would help, but it’s not. Same scenario. AvastSvc.exe is at 100% and I can’t stop it. It’s Windows XP sp3 also…

Any help?

Download the update and run it seems to solve.

I managed to uninstall via the Windows Add/Delete programs utility. I then re-installed Avast Free from the avast.com site and all appears to be well for now.

Thanks

Indeed, a clean reinstall will do the job
