Avast disables email client

Avast Premium on Windows 10

My email client (Thunderbird) worked OK in the morning. But afternoon I tried to send an email out, and after much clock spinning it vanished, along with the mail I was replying to. Then everytime I tried to synch mail it ran the clock out. Got error message : “login to server . . . with username . . . failed”. Google search found that virus software sometimes blocks email. So I put Avast on Passive Mode, and the email client was able to get mail.

While I was trying to deal with the email problem I got a message from Avast that it needed to Restart. During the restart, one of the running routines was “emergency update”. After the update, the email still didn’t work, until I set Avast to Passive Mode. Now it works properly.

Will I have to always put Avast in Passive in order to get my email? Or was this a one time thing? Is there another setting that will avoid tampering with email?

Hi,

You should only use passive mode if you want to do a test, otherwise passive mode should be disabled.
Could you please try to repair Avast. - https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Repair-Antivirus
If the issue still persists please look at your CoreShield settings and specifically
MailShield settings - https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Antivirus-shield-settings
Start by checking your overall core settings and if that is fine try to disable MailShield to test it.
