Avast displays SUPERAntiSpyware warning and error messages

Good morning,

This morning I ran a SUPERAntispyware program scan and later while checking my AntiVirus entries in ‘Event Viewer’ I discovered Avast had given me one warning message and one error message about the SUPERAntiSpyware scan.

The warning entry said:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: avast!
Event Category: Client
Event ID: 90
Date: 1/17/2009
Time: 10:52:31 AM
User: N/A
Computer: YOUR-XXXXXXXXXX
Description:
AAVM - scanning warning: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx [UNI]: C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Application Data\SUPERAntiSpyware.com\SUPERAntiSpyware\PROCESSLIST.BIN (C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Application Data\SUPERAntiSpyware.com\SUPERAntiSpyware\PROCESSLIST.BIN) returning error, 0000A413.

The error entry read:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: avast!
Event Category: Client
Event ID: 90
Date: 1/17/2009
Time: 10:52:31 AM
User: N/A
Computer: YOUR-XXXXXXXXXX
Description:
AAVM - scanning error: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx: avfilesScanReal of C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Application Data\SUPERAntiSpyware.com\SUPERAntiSpyware\PROCESSLIST.BIN failed, 0000A413.

Does anyone have any idea what these two messages mean? Should I be concerned?

Thanks and regards,

2harts4ever

Seems to me that avast just was unable to scan the file.
Most likely the file is encrypted.

Morning Eddy,

So are you saying I have nothing to worry about?

Thanks and regards,

2harts4ever

Not so sure… but I think the two scanners running at the same time (on demand for SuperAntispyware and on access for avast) are due to this ‘error’. I won’t worry that much.

Hi Tech,

I appreciate your follow-up and so does my ‘66-year-old brain-housing group’.

Thanks and regards,

Short answer I wouldn’t even bother with this as it is just a scanning error.

These messages are more for debugging by someone like an avast engineer and not particularly user friendly. If you want you can search the forums or google the error number http://www.google.com/search?q=error+0000A413 and have a rummage round in the results if it were on my system and I dare say there entries such as this, I wouldn’t waste the time.

I also don’t go poking around in the event viewer or the avast log viewer unless I’m experiencing a problem. If the error were really serious it would display to the screen. Partly as you have found you are concerned because you don’t understand it and unfortunately there is little if anything you can do about it.

I also pause the Standard Shield when I run another security scan, ensuring the internet connection is off-line.

Hi DavidR,

I appreciate your thoughts on this matter too.

Especially:

You answered what would have been my next question with that statement.

Have a great day!

Thanks and regards,

You’re welcome and a good day to you too.

These 2 errors appear now and then when updating SAS, but not always.

They are genererated by Avast realtime scanner(on-access).

If you, like me, like clean logs, you can put e.g. “SUPERAntiSpyware.com\SUPERAntiSpyware\PROCESSLIST.BIN” without the quotes in Resident scan/exclude list.

Hi hlecter,

Your suggestion is appreciated too.

Thanks and regards,

2harts4ever

You’re very welcome.

Have a nice day.

HL

Edit: If you wonder where the exclusionlist is:

Standardshield/Customize/Advanced and add a new line at the bottom.

hlecter,

I appreciate this added information also.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks and regards,
