I’m getting browser crashes in IE10 on Win7 SP1. It will just suddenly happen. The tab will crash with an “Internet Explorer has stopped working” message. It will try fix it, but can’t, and then I have to hit ‘close’ and the tab will refresh itself. Sometimes all the tabs refresh themselves after one of the tabs crashes.
It’s related to an Avast process called aswJsFlt.dll
Whenever a tab crashes, I get the following message in Event Viewer:
Hi, mag. Thanks. Yeah, just some standard addons – flash and Java and whatnot. I’ll try disable them and uninstall script shield, like you said. Yeah, strange problem.
Unless a member of the avast team or someone more knowledgeable chips in that’s about all I can suggest - keep disabling things and see if you can track down the culprit.
(I take it you’ve already tried clearing IE cache?)
I would try uninstalling webrep from IE10 too. Shouldn’t logically be connected, but I do recall a plan for webrep to also interrogate malware info sources - and a scriptshield library may possibly be one of those sources? Don’t know if it was ever carried through though.
As a last resort you could try a complete uninstall/reinstall of avast - with no guarantee that anything will change though.
Hi. Thanks for those suggestions. Yeah, I have cleared the cache. And I’ve had WebRep disabled for ages now. Not a lot really to disable, just flash, PDF helper and the Java plugin. But I will try running IE10 without them for a bit. So, yeah, I suppose I’ll have to uninstall/reinstall Avast when I have a chance, like you say, if just to perhaps rule that out. Thanks for your help, mag.
