AVAST does not work properly on Win98

Hi,

I just dwonloaded AVAST 4.8 Home Family(french version) Free
I entered my license an everything went fine

After a while for an unknown reason I had to manualy stop and restart my computer(my system was blocked)

When I restarted my computer everything was fine except taht AVAST did not work anymore(no resident protection) and I could not
send mail anymore(my Outlokk express was always asking for my password)

How can I have AVAST work properly again or how can I completely remove AVAST from my old system so I can have my original settings back(I suppose AVAST changed something in my STP settings)?

PS:If you could make it in French this would be great since my English is not so good(I am computer illiterated also)

While I don’t know why this has happened specifically, you can try performing a repair installation and then try manually updating avast. Just go to the Control Panel, click on “Add/Remove Programs,” and then avast. When the menu options appear on the left (in the window that appears after clicking on avast,) scroll down to the, I believe, last option, “Repair.”

If the problem isn’t solved after performing the repair, you can try uninstalling avast with this tool…

Then download and reinstall avast from scratch…

Thank you for your kind and fast help.This unpleasant experience with AVAST drives me to pprefer an uninstallation rather than a
repair

Will the proposed tool put my SMTP settings in the original state?
I don’t want to unistall and then still be unable to send any emails
So,I suppose but I might be mistaken that I first have to change a setting in AVAST(but how?) before using the tool you proposed

You’re welcome but I had forgotten to ask in my previous post if you had another AV installed before avast. If so and it was uninstalled through “Add/Remove Programs,” there may be remnants of it that could have possibly affected your copy. Let us know if you still would like to give avast another try. :slight_smile:
