A couple of days ago I started to get this ad on websites that never had ads before. I went on a couple of forums and everyone said I had a virus. Avast! didn’t detect anything. I posted that on the forums. Everyone said that Avast! was unreliable and that I should switch anti-virus programs. I was annoyed when they said this because I already payed for Avast!. Anyway, I downloaded the free version of Malwarebytes and it detected 31 malicious files and 1 malicious registry key. Should I switch anti-virus programs or will Avast! improve? ???
What is the website url ?
Post Malwarebytes log here so we can see what was detected … guessing it was PUP detections?
The ads were appearing on Steam sights (store.steampowered.com, steamcommunity.com/, etc.). Here is a link to the Malwarebytes scan https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3Aqc0B1tMwUa2R5VXEtelJnLUk/edit
As i suspected, most of it is PUP detections… avast PUP detection is default off exept for in boot scan
PUP = not virus / Possible Unwanted Program … usually crapware that comes bundled with freeware downloads
some info
The default action for PUP detections is 'Show in results list and do not check for removal."
