For some reason the site blocking didn’t block it, whilst I stopped and restarted the web shield (as that is what is used to do the blocking), but adblock plus works just fine. I too can’t see the purpose of it in the avast forums.

You were absolutely entitled to ask questions about the site that troubles you at your school computer. At least the issue gets noticed and maybe we can help towards the solution of the problem. “Crash IE” was not with us for quite some time, and who needs such a pathetic form of IE bashing, even when it is harmless?
I think you must ask the school IT admin to block that site for you if that is what is troubling you or rather give you the means to block it. The site is not malicious as such, so probably won’t be blocked by av or by google safebrowsing, etc., maybe by WOT, but maybe you won’t have that installed at school either, but visiting this site could be a nuisance for IE users that may land on it. Normally when a browser tab crashes one can go on surfing, like with other browsers,
