Conducting a false positive test of the new virus definition file should be a routine procedure ,just like many other anti-virus software e.g Avira do. Doesn’t Avast make a false positive test before every VPS is released to public? at least on the most common white-list files(Windows system files and the common software)~Hopefully Avast could improve the issue and make the anti-virus product even better!
that’s also what I’m wondering when such things happen…I guess the answer is clearly NO ;D (or at least not this time ::)) close to 100 % of users who got the bad update had their system affected, so chances are that the devs would have seen their machines affected as well…which has probably been the case…once the update was already released.
Luckily as I already mentioned in another thread my system was shut down when the bad update happened last night, and when I turned it on again the correction was there… which explains my relatively good mood today ;D
Yes, Avast does make a false positive test before every VPS is released public?
But this time, due to a human error, the update slipped away.
Please wait with discussions like this for a day or two, right now we try to help those who were affected. Explanations (and process changes) will come next.
Thanks
Vlk
Well, I agree, avast should have tested the VPS and safely distributed. I wonder how many out of the 100 million users have a headache at the moment because this issue. I noticed the problem from the very start when it detected spybot s&d files (which happily reside with avast) as infected. I think this happened to me before, not in a larger amount like this, but managed to restore from the chest.
Well, unfortunate happens, so let’s move on and help the others (i have few workstations to fix).
For my goodness i did not being affected because i said no action… I was very scared…
Mr.Agent
I slipped up an bit here. I didn’t post info about my alerts to the forum until much later. I must have starting to getting my alerts very early in the piece, but mind was elsewhere, on another issue. I didn’t see that updates could be an issue. Things are so tedious around here on the virus front and has had problems with the computer before so I was expecting the virus to not be something overly special. My heart goes to all those with OS to repair. the issues seem mainly with Programs, and alerts against Tall Emu (OA) started it off for me. Tall Emu is of course reputable firewall is most likely false positives.
First thing I think is refrain from deleting a file. If chest refuses a file, then it is time to power the system down and scan when need be. That is, take time out and come back later to see what was become of the issue
Next thing is make sure always you have the latest update. Though these kind of problems hardly ever happens.
And I should have reported in earlier, may have helped a bit for others, I completely ran out of time halfway through it all, and had to drop everything and go, and then come back to everything and put things back in place. I went to the forums and got my fixes worked out quickly. But harder for the average computer user. i try to direct my business to the avast forums so my users can take hands on approach to ownership of avast license, go to FAQs and forums immediately, and make effort themselves. Others just switch computer off until, which is good enough. Especially if I have to go back there and put back on track. But what a pity it all happen at the same time as I have too much on my mind, and no time to spare. Mostly its completely boring round here.
