Hello there,
since yesterday I have some problems with avast! Free Antivirus. When I’m clicking on the avast! icon in the taskbar it says that my system is protected. But sometimes the program seems to deactivate itself, the program turns red and says “You’re not protected” but some seconds later it’s green again and says “Your system is protected”. As if this isn’t strange enough I’m unable to scan my PC. Whenever I want to scan my PC for malware, the program begins to scan but stays at 0% (while scanning winlogon.exe) and suddenly it turns the scan-process off.
I already deinstalled the program by using avastclear, reinstalled it, but the same problems occur.
I’m using version 2014.9.0.2008 on Windows 7. I hope you can help me,
thanks in advance
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
[*]Right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
[*]Press Scan button.
[*]It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
[*]Please copy and paste log back here.
[*]The first time the tool is run it generates another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST.exe/FRST64.exe). Please also paste that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.
Alright, I found a download-link to the current Beta but is it possible to update to the latest Beta-version by using my stable-build?
When I click on update, it seems like it’s only updating to the latest stable-release.
You can’t install the beta builds from within the Program Update of regular release versions. When you check for updates from the UI it is looking at the regular release versions and you have the latest one.
To install the beta version you have to download the beta installation file, see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=141743.0 for download locations of the latest version. Once downloaded you can either install (run) that over the top of the existing avast version.

That said, given that you are experiencing problems with the existing version it might be best to do a clean install of the latest beta version:
Download the latest version of avast beta, 9.0.2009 from the location given above and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, avastclear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD.
Now uninstall avast! - using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step, reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, it will request it be run from safe mode (and will handle the boot into safe mode), once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
Note: save the copy of avastclear.exe so it can be reused as some users are reporting that after running it, it is self-deleting.
Strange, I installed the beta-client and checked if the quick-scan works now. The first time I clicked on it, the scan was super fast, and it said “Nothing found”. Well, I thought that this was a little bit too fast so I clicked again and this time I have the same problems like all the hours before, it doesn’t start. Now avast! even deactivates itself again and says that my system is unprotected.
Sorry for the double-post but I’m still looking for a solution of my problem.
Avast! keeps deactivating itself from time to time, I have to start it over by myself the whole time.
