Avast doesn't start automatic

Hi there,

My Avast doesn’t start automatically (it doesn’t show up in the right down corner). I know I should put programs in the startup directory for startup, but which .exe from the Avast! directory should I take?

Ashdip.exe^^

Try that^^

Hi Koploper.
What AV was installed prior to Avast?
Was this a recent problem; did it work OK in the past?
What OS, and what other security programs installed?
Any other symptome of computer misbehaviour?

Try a repair of your Avast installation, via the add/remove programs in the control panel. (May vary depending on the OS).

As a temporary measure until this is resolved you can create a desktop shortcut for this file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashDisp.exe (the avast icon and interface to the providers). Right click on the file and select Send To, Desktop (create shortcut). You will need to run this after each boot until the problem is resolved.

What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard or OnGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc. ?

Check the option in the Appearance tab of Program Settings.

Or Make a link to ashdisp.exe in your startup folder. I wouldn’t try this as a first option (but a final one) as you won’t be able to find the true cause of the problem

Which is your Windows? 98, Me, XP, Vista?
Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

I use Windows XP, service pack 3. I don’t have any firewalls or other AV installed.

Once in a while I run Spybot S&D, but no more. I also use CCleaner.

Avast said a while ago my NTNDIS.exe was infected, I deleted the file. Now my computer start with a error. That’s all.

Can you try to repair your installation?

Thanks alot for this one! I see in CCleaner that Avast! is back in the startup list.

Koploper, is always smarter send a file to Chest for further analysis than direct removing.
Glad everything is working fine now.
