Avast Doesn't Want To Start

Ok so it says on the icon - attention, your sistem is unprotected or something like that.

When I start Avast and open up the main window, it says unprotected, click the button to start avast, I click it - nothing happens. Below that it says that avast was stopped or it doesn’t work properly, please restart the program. I do so by clicking the button next to this - nothing happens.
Also none of the shields work, shields cannot be reached.

I think it turned itself off when I restarted computer earlier today, it did some updating and now I can’t turn it back on.

Note that this is the free version.

Help please.

Have you just installed avast ?

Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

No, I’ve had it for quite some time now. I recall this happening once before but I can’t remember how I fixed it. Not sure what caused it as I said, when I restarted my computer it started doing some upadtes or some file checking on the black screen before it actually turned on I guess.

Try a repair of avast:
XP - Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and select Repair, click next and follow.

Vista, win7 - Control Panel, Programs & Features, uninstall a program, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Uninstall/Change and select Repair, click next and follow.

You may need to reboot after the repair.

It worked! Thanks alot man

You’re welcome.
