My pc has automatically downloaded the update of Internet Explorer, so now I have IE 7. As I rebooted the pc Avast antivirus didn’t work so I disinstalled it and downloaded it again from your website but even the reinstalled version doesn’t work! I supposte that there is a problem with IE 7 or with some other upgrades that are downloaded with IE 7 upgrade.
Please reply telling me what I am supposed to do because I liked using Avast on my pc. Thank you
What do you mean by avast doesn’t work any more, what part of avast doesn’t work, etc. ?
What error messages if any are displayed ?
What is your Operating System ?
What is your firewall ?
the message displayed says that the file “ashAvast.exe” is impossible to find.
And Avast doesn’t work at all, except the mment when I restart the pc after uninstalling and reinstallig the pc:infact in that particular moment Avast makes the scanning of the hard disks, but after that scanning,as the pc starts to work,it doesn’t work anymore.
I use Windows Xp and I don’t know what kind of firewall I have.I tried many times to uninstall and reinstall Avast but since that upgrade it doesn’t work.I’m getting worried becauce even othe antivirus like Antivir and Avg don’t work!
please help me!
Well you actually don’t need ashAvast.exe for the on-access protection to work, ashAvast.exe starts the memory scan and loads the Simple User Interface for on-demand scans. Though it may be an indication that something is attacking avast, which seems to be confirmed by its attack on other AVs you tried, see below.
What avast processes are running in Task Manager, they begin with ash or asw, see image ?

Bagle Rootkit variant that may attack avast (and other AVs):

This seemed to have the best results with this type of attack and is reasonably user friendly.

Also F-Secure Blacklight may not always be available, http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight - Direct line, ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/fsbl.exe
This seems to be a rootkit (hidden virus) infection like David said.
Besides what he suggested, don’t try to install two antivirus at the same time… you’ll get more conflicts and problems. Only one at once.
