Can someone please tell me what this is? When I got the notice the other day I told it to update as I assumed there was some kind of emergency given the name. This resulted in major problems on my computer, I had to uninstall avast and go get the program and reinstall it. Right now every time I get a popup saying AvastEmUpdate.exe is trying to access the internet I say no. But, I’d like to know what it is and if I can just totally block it so it won’t ask me anymore. I have all the other files, i.e. AvastUI.exe, the regular update and such set to always allow access, and the program seems to be updating the virus definitions. So, can I just block that other one. I can’t use it since it really messed up my computer when I updated through it that first time.
I can assure you, however, that the “emergency update” executable didn’t cause any problems to your computer - because it’s not doing anything at the moment.
It might have been the avast! update itself if you just/recently updated the program (especially the version 7.0.1451 has a few issues), but this particular executable certainly not, no matter if you allow it or block it.
Ah…, so that was the problem. Before the update I had some version that was in a folder called Alwil/avast5. Can’t remember the version number, but the update did say it was a program update. After the update it was a new folder called Avast Software and the version was 7.0.14 something, when I uninstalled downloaded and re-installed it put on 7.0.146.418. In any case I will just set that to automatically allow internet access so it can do the updates as it needs -[just so it doesn’t again put a bunch of google stuff on!] I guess I missed the checked boxes :-[ Thanks for the response, I just like to know
