AVAST Endpoint Protection Suite Plus Has Problems With Windows 8

I use AVAST Endpoint Protection Suite Plus on all my household computers and our Home Server 2011. I have the AVAST Endpoint Protection Suite Plus Console running on the server. The new laptops have Windows 8 installed. The AVAST software does not work well with Windows 8. This is well documented in the AVAST/Free/Pro/Suite Forums. I just wish to document this Business Protection forum that the AVAST Business Protection products have the same Windows 8 problems.

We business users pay quite a lot for anti-virus, firewall, anti-spam, and server protection. When can we business users expect resolution of these problems?

Are you serious? Windows 8 has just been released - you expect all software to work with it? When did you get on a computer, last week?

Have you noticed on the Avast! Home Page (http://www.avast.com/index) that there is a Windows 8 Compatible logo on the upper right hand side!

So what? It’s getting there… you can’t expect software to be perfectly ready to roll in the first year.
All I am saying is, expect the un-expected when dealing with a new Operating System so you aren’t caught off guard in the future.
I’ll stick with Windows 7 until at least a few years of Windows 8, I learned that back in Windows 3.11

Take a look at the news clip Avast! has posted on their website: (http://www.avast.com/pr-first-free-antivirus-certified-for-windows-8-avast)

First Free Antivirus Certified for Windows 8: avast!

PRAGUE, Czech Republic, November 5, 2012 – avast! is the first free antivirus software to be offered in the Windows® store and has earned the Windows 8 certification from Microsoft® (NASDAQ: MSFT).

“This provides Windows users with a certified PC security solution that is far better than what they would have with the pre-bundled Windows Defender antivirus previously known as Microsoft Security Essentials,” said Ondrej Vlcek, AVAST CTO.

In use, Avast! on a Windows 8 machine does a number on your local network. I have to disable much of the network settings to allow use of my new laptop.

Avast! has known of these problems for several months, as I have stated, look at the other forum…

the business product engine is always a version behind on the consumer product engine. Thus the support for Win8 is not too great yet.
The new engine is expected soon to be released for the business products as i understood in some other postings.

Businesses (or at least the IT administrators) usually wait a while until the worst issues/bugs from a new product are resolved, since the problems that are caused by the bugs/issues usually give a lot more trouble then waiting a while until the bugs are out.
New versions are therefor usually tested in a test environment.

@joealbergo; cool down a bit :slight_smile: not everybody has extensive experience in IT and when a product is released its the general assumption that it works on everything.

… okay >:(

::cooling down::

::cool:: :slight_smile: haha

@joealbergo - Seriously? :o

Not my first rodeo and I’m a firm believer in the importance of the “wait for SP1 rule” for business use, but I’d argue that security is one of those areas that the consumer has every reason to expect the vendor to be “ahead” of the release cycle. There is a reason why MSDN exists. There is a reason why beta and developer previews are released. There is a reason why Avast! submitted for Windows 8 certification and made a press release about it in 2012… And it’s not because it is reasonable to think that people are going to wait a couple years to install Windows 8…

Users want trust when it comes to security. Users want something far better than what they would have with the pre-bundled Windows Defender antivirus previously known as Microsoft Security Essentials, out of the box, when Windows 8 is (was) released. It needs to work.

There. I said it. :smiley:

That is SO ON the mark! You are much more diplomatic than I am. 1st releases of OS are just as bad as they have ever been throughout history. Nothing has changed except M$ and their marketing procedures. Until SP1 happens, you still have no idea what you have. So with Windows 8, BUYERS BEWARE
