Yes, “automatically detect” is checked and proxy server is unchecked.
Did you see my last edit?
Just saw it. No, I cannot connect with anything. Not with FF, MSN, my email, or any update programs. I don’t have internet explorer (deleted it a long time ago), so I can’t check that in particular.
Of course you have IE. You cannot delete it. Its part of Windows unless you did a slim install. Lets check your host file.
Nope…this hasn’t worked.
Maybe its possible your NIC is no good. Is this a laptop or desktop? Is your ethernet cable in good shape? So was your host file normal?
It’s a desktop. It could be your idea of a hardware fault, but this motherboard is only about a year and a half old, and yes my ethernet cable is fine. IT’s only 4 feet long, anyway.
The host file had a few entries in it, but nothing out the ordinary, just stuff for adobe updaters and the like. I’ve had corrupted host files before, so I know what to look for.
However, it might be worth noting that in the microsoft page you sent me, I had to use the regular root to access my hosts file, not the one suggested for 64-bit systems, as that one did not work.
Doesn’t matter if the mobo is only a year old. I have seen them bad only after a month. The one thing you can try is buying a usb wireless adapter and then seeing if you can connect. If so then your NIC is no good. Did you try running a ping/trace route?
How to run a ping, if your computer is Windows Vista or Windows7:
Click on the "Start Orb" and then type "Command Prompt" in the "Start Search" field.
From the search results, click on the "Command Prompt" icon that's listed under "Programs."
After the "Command Prompt" window is open, type: ping -n 500 [hostname] > ping.txt
(without the brackets)
Example: Example: ping -n 500 YourHostedDomainName.com > ping.txt
Depending on the network speed, this command will run for several minutes. Once the diagnostic is complete, the results will be saved in a filed named ping.txt.
How to run a traceroute, if your computer is Windows Vista or Windows 7:
Click on the "Start Orb" and then type "Command Prompt" in the "Start Search" field.
From the search results, click on the "Command Prompt" icon that's listed under "Programs."
After the "Command Prompt" window is open, type: tracert [hostname]
(without the brackets)
Example: tracert YourHostedDomainName.com
I agree. I’ve had gigabye boards die in months, they’re no good.
I have, actaully. I’ve done tracert to a few websites, and it worked fully.
Well I am upgrading my rig within the month, so I won’t spend money on a usb wireless (I hate those personally, anyway).
Wireless usb was just an idea. You can try running a scan with Dr.WebCurit. It does not need updating. A new version comes out about twice a week.
So you can ping out yahoo?
Also run a rootkit scan.

Indeed I can ping yahoo. It works fine.
Well, I’ll do those, is that for the error 10044 and my web shield being deactivated? Because there was also that problem as well.
I am just trying to eliminate everything. If you can ping Yahoo then your NIC works. I take it your typing off a working pc. Just download those two items and put them on a usb stick. Then plug them into your broken pc and run them.
As I said, I’m typing off an iPad. I just put in a wireless USB and I will get the files through it. I’ll post back after I have run them both.
EDIT: Well, looks like I can’t even access anything through the wireless, either. So I don’t know what to do, as I can’t access anything through network, and I don’t have a USB drive.
You will need to get a usb thumb drive or else burn them on a cd with another pc. Maybe a families pc. Does Windows see the wireless usb and is it
configured in your gateway properly?
Out of curiosity does Windows Update run?
I managed to transfer through the network. Apparently my computer is still on the LAN even though it can’t access the internet.
I configued the Wireless USB properly. I’ve worked with it before on other computers and I know it’s working. My gateway is awesome in that the uPnP can basically auto-config for everything, so I never have to worry about any errors.
As in, when I boot up? No. But I do have Windows Update enabled, if that’s what you were asking.
Most newer pc’s have a recovery partition to boot into. Sorry but this is not what you want to hear but its always a good idea to keep a system image stored on an external drive for when problems arise like this. Windows 7 even tells you this and has its own backup imaging program. Why in the world would you disable Windows Update? Can you open up Windows Update and run it?
I think you misread my comment. I do have it enabled and active.
Yeah, I would truly do backups, but the problem is I’m money tight and don’t have the funds to support a drive large enough to do it (right now I’m still using old drives from like 5 years ago, one is 80 GB and another is 200 GB for personal affects/movies/video games.)
Money is no reason when you consider loosing precious memories and photos. Heck you can get a 1TB external drive for $100.
Well I ran the anti-rootkit and antivirus programs you sent me. The doctor found nothing, but the tdsskiller found a threat in c:\windows\system32\drivers\sptd.sys. Is this genuine, or too risky to delete? Or should I delete it anyway?
